Laura Gunning June 10, 1965 – November 6, 2020 It is with deep sadness that Durham Shores Chorus announces the passing of our cherished Sister, Laura Gunning. Laura began her journey as a Sweet Adeline in 2004, first as a member of Bay of Quinte Chorus, and later she joined Durham Shores Chorus. She was our faithful Pitch Mistress until her illness in 2019. Laura’s history with Durham Shores included serving as Chair of our Director Search Committee in 2016, and as Membership Chair 2017-2018. Visitors and prospective members were always greeted with her signature warm smile and welcoming nature. Laura was a true Baritone, who relished singing those “leftover” notes to make that genuine barbershop sound. A well-rung chord would elicit a gleeful chuckle from Laura. For ten years, Laura was the Baritone in Chrysalis quartet, and not surprisingly, developed deep and lasting friendships with her quartet mates. Our Region 16 Convention was always the highlight of Laura’s year. Never was she happier than when surrounded by harmony and sparkle. Little did she know how much of the sparkle came from her! We will never forget Laura’s brilliant smile or her sweet Baritone voice. Farewell, dear Sister. As expressions of sympathy, Laura’s family has suggested that donations be made in her memory to: Ed’s House Hospice 1301 Ontario Street Cobourg, ON K9A 0N3 https://www.northumberlandhospice.ca/give.html |

What a great weekend we had in Syracuse at our Region 16 42nd Annual Convention on May 4-7, 2017! Not only did we have fun, we came home with the 2nd place, Division A medals! We'd like to congratulate all of the quartets and choruses in Region 16 for an awesome performance on stage this weekend! We love this hobby! |
What a great Sendoff! This annual performance is a night that we offer to show appreciation for all the love and support from our families and friends. The house was packed, and the chorus was full of energy and song. Special thanks to those who helped out including Raymonde, Margaret and Geri for handling the 50/50, Stephanie Jukes for emceeing, Frances Logan for taking pics, Jessica Warner for taking videos and to our amazing audience for your Feed the Need donations. We ended the night by asking all Sweet Adelines from the audience to join us for a couple of Regional songs, and all sang beautifully! | |
